In Memory of Russell Glenn Dorling
Russell Glenn Dorling (passed Feb 2026)

From Greg Linwood on LinkedIn:
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Russell Glenn Dorling earlier this week.
Glenn Dorling had been a deeply respected member of our team for many years, loved both within MyDBA and amongst our clients.
Glenn was not known to be unwell, but he experienced an unexpected medical episode while on an evening walk in his neighborhood in Geelong on Monday Feb 9th.
Glenn was an extremely experienced and capable database engineer. In addition to his 15 years at MyDBA, Glenn had previously worked for 17 years at Australia New Zealand Banking Group, and had earlier experience with two other banks prior to that, stretching back to the late 1980s.
Prior to his IT career, Glenn had studied pharmacy and worked as a pharmacist. Occasionally, Glenn brought surprisingly scientific context to office discussions and meetings with clients in the health sector, including Victoria Health, NSW Health, Federal Health and private health sector clients.
His expertise with SQL Server Replication and High Availability was unparalleled in my opinion. Everything Glenn touched with these complex technologies was successful and reliable, across a wide range of use cases and industries.
In the early 2000s, Glenn worked on a TB+ replicate SQL Server database at ANZ Bank, one of the world’s largest and most challenging of the time. The SQL Server database compression tool “SQLLiteSpeed” was conceived on that project to solve backup scale challenges with its size. Glenn also spent some time working in India for ANZ, helping them establish a strong technical team there.
Beyond his technical expertise, Glenn was admired and respected even more for his calm & dignified approach to everything he did, and everyone he encountered. It is for this he will be most missed at MyDBA.
Glenn arrived to work impressively on his “Japanese Harley Davidson” motorbike (a Honda, but an awesome machine), with wild blonde Viking styled hair and black leathers. Underneath his wild appearance in the car park, Glenn was an absolute gentleman, and a scholar.

We will miss him terribly.
A service for Glenn will be announced soon, but please feel free to send me a direct message or respond to this post & if you would like details when they become available.
